About me FAQs

  • What’s your background?

I spent the first 20 years of my career working in large organisations specialising in people development, team effectiveness and individual coaching. I created Whitestone People Development ltd in 2005 to follow my professional interests and my work now focuses solely on my therapy and coaching practice.

  • What professional standards do you work to?

I qualified as a therapist with the Edinburgh Gestalt Institute in 2009. I’ve studied extensively since then at the Gestalt International Study Centre in Cape Cod. I am a member of BACP (British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists), my practice is guided by their code of ethics and professional standards.

I have been a coach for well over 20 years and I’m accredited Coach with the AOEC (Association of Executive Coaches). I actively involved in a range of CPD and review my approach regularly with a supervisor.

  • What interests do you have?

Beyond the world of work, I enjoy the simplicity of spending time with my family and friends. I’m a keen rugby supporter, I love canoeing, camping, skiing and being outdoors.

Therapy FAQ's

  • How does therapy begin?

You can contact me for the first time via email or phone. It’s important that you find a therapist that’s right for you. To help with this we can arrange a short “chemistry fit” type of conversation. Lasting no longer than 20 minutes this can include some information about you and what is bringing you to therapy. I can also answer any questions you may have. I don’t charge for this session. If we decide to proceed, we can agree a date and time that suits us both to meet in person.
    How often would we meet?
We will develop a plan that works for us both. I often work with clients weekly or fortnightly. Whatever frequency we decide, each session will last 50-minute.

  • How often would we meet and where?

I often work with clients weekly or fortnightly, we’ll decide this together. I work from the and friendly surroundings of Dialogue and Space, on Albion Road – https://www.dialogueandspace.co.uk/  I prefer in person client work and will use zoom and other technologies where this isn’t possible.

  • How many sessions and what does it cost?

This is a question without a clear answer, there is no fixed schedule for therapy and no usual length of time. Once we get to know each other we will both be clearer about this

I have a range of session rates from £6o – £110 per hour. This enables me to offer my services at a price suited to my client’s income. We will discuss this when we meet.

A frequently used coaching package contains 8, one-hour sessions. We’ll create a schedule to pace the work and often these hours will be used over several months. I coach via zoom, Ms teams and, if you’re local to Edinburgh, in my practice room in the west end of the city, at Walker Street.

  • How much does coaching cost?

I have a range of session rates to offer my services at a price suited to my client’s income and whether their organisation is supporting the work. We can discuss this to find a rate to work for us both when we have our chemistry call.
